A. The impact has been
far less than was predicted. In the first year only sales
decreased by 10%.

A. 300

Broadmead since the opening of The Mall at Cribbs Causeway?
A. A whole series of
environmental enhancements have been put in place, a wide range
of new stores have opened and new, improved bus and park & ride
services have meant that getting to Broadmead is even easier.
Also Broadmead has a dedicated police team and a dedicated cleansing
team – this means that Broadmead is safer and cleaner than ever!
Q4. What are the advantages
of Broadmead?
A. Broadmead is located
in the heart of the city. It is compact, flat, easily accessible
and it offers a wide variety of outlets from department stores to
specialist local independents.
Broadmead offers so much more – as illustrated in our strap line…Broadmead,
don't just go shopping – go to town! You'll find cafes, pubs, a
cinema and even a park right next to Broadmead and we're very close
to lots of Bristol 's main attractions.
Q5. Will there ever be
free parking in Broadmead?
A. No, not as such.
It may be possible in the future for customers to take advantage
of special promotions which could result in free parking.
Q6. How many buses per
day in to Broadmead?
A. Over 1,000 buses come
into Broadmead each day.
Q7. Why is car parking
so expensive?
A This is not
the case in all car parks. The perception of many customers
is that all car parks are expensive. In fact many have special
shopper's tariffs. For example, at The Mall Bristol
car park, it is free to park after 5pm on Thursdays, and only £2
for up to 7 hours on Sundays.
Q8. What about congestion
around Broadmead?
A. As with all
successful city centres, there are peaks both in the mornings and
evenings. Access improvements are high on the agenda not
only for peak times but also for off-peak periods.
Q9. Are there any plans
to improve / expand Broadmead?
A. Yes, we are
very lucky to have secured a £500 million development, which
will move Broadmead from its current position to one of the UK 's

Many initiatives are also underway to improve the existing Broadmead.
Q10. Will Business Improvement
Districts help to improve standards in existing Broadmead?
A. Yes, they will. We
hope to transform the street scene and improve links by 2008.
Q11. Why aren't there
more facilities for children?
A. We do provide
entertainment and activities for children at The Podium on a regular
basis and we also have indoor facilities in The Mall Galleries.
Castle Park , only 50 meters away from Broadmead, has an
enclosed, leafy children's play area.

A. Please look

A. In June 1995

private sector partnership with a team of high profile directors
