Following a successful BID vote in the Summer of 2005, below is an update detailing the latest developments regarding the implementation of the BID and our exciting plans for the future.

The Opportunity

As many of you will know the £500 million Broadmead Expansion which will sit directly alongside existing Broadmead, provides a fantastic opportunity for existing stores to benefit from this massive development.

Work on site has already started and the new development is due to open its doors in Autumn 2008, which will dramatically change the fortune of shopping in Bristol City Centre.

The Broadmead BID is focused on ensuring that the existing retail streets are completely transformed with new paving, new lighting and new street furniture to ensure that the retailers in Broadmead benefit from the new development.

The overall vision for the BID is to make Broadmead a better place to shop and visit, and to ensure that customers who shop in the new development in 2008 also continue to shop in Broadmead – a win-win for everyone!

The BID is well and truly underway

The Broadmead BID officially commenced on the 1st November 2005, and lots of behind the scenes planning and preparation work has been taking place to get the exciting plans for Broadmead’s new street scene well underway.

Broadmead Board Ltd have appointed a sub-committee to take this initiative forward working alongside the Broadmead BID team.

Engineering and design contractors have been appointed and discussions are also underway with the Bristol Alliance, the developers of the Broadmead expansion, to ensure that there is a co-ordinated approach to all the planned improvements and a seamless link to the new development.

From mid-October 2006, new bespoke stainless steel bins, bollards and cycle racks will replace the existing dated street furniture on Union St, Haymarket and The Horsefair.

This phase (phase one) of the works will be completed well before we enter the busiest trading period of the year. We committed at an early stage to work closely with store managers. Our store managers panel made it clear BID works should always be carried out in the off peak periods.

Phase two, which is much more extensive, will include the transformation of Broadmead and Merchant Street including new paving, street furniture and lighting.

All works are to be completed by Autumn 2008, which will coincide with the planned opening of the Broadmead expansion.

The Broadmead BID sub-committee comprises of a variety of stakeholders all of whom have a great interest in Broadmead.

The role of this group is to steer the BID through the next phase and report back to the BID management company, The Broadmead Board Ltd.

Several sub-committee meetings have taken place and a key point summary of each of the meetings can be found on the downloads tab of this website.

BID Bills

Collection rates of the year one BID levy have been excellent. Thank you to all concerned. Bills for year two will be sent out to the levy payers in October 2006.

If you have a BID bill enquiry or are still yet to pay, please contact the Business Rates Department, Bristol City Council.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to delivering a new shopping experience here in Broadmead.
