Broadmead's Galleries shopping centre has been sold for £123
million - and will be renamed The Mall Bristol.
London-based firm The Mall Corporation announced it
had bought Broadmead's indoor centre from previous owners Norwich
Union yesterday.
The company's chief executive said Bristolians would
soon adapt to the name change, and start calling it The Mall Bristol,
while referring to The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, simply as Cribbs.
"The Galleries will always be known as the Galleries,
because people link places to names they have known them by."
The Mall Corporation said it now had 18 community
shopping centre across the country, worth a total of £1.54
billion. Each centre is called The Mall, followed by the name of
the city or town where it is located.
