Broadmead helping to make Bristol a greener city
Thursday, 8th October 2009
Broadmead management and Bristol City Council are working together to make it easy for people to recycle whilst they shop.
Recycling bins were introduced in key areas of Broadmead in April allowing cans and bottles to be recycled for a trial period. After a successful six months, the bins have earned their place as a permanent fixture.
Jo Hawkins, Broadmead Project Manager, said: “It’s great that Broadmead can play its part in helping Bristol recycle more than any other major city in the UK. Broadmead shoppers can already recycle at home but the new bins give them the chance to recycle on the move too.
“We’re really pleased that the recycling bins have proved to be so successful. These are in addition to the large number of bins for disposal of other waste and we would encourage shoppers to use the correct bins for their waste disposal.”
Councillor Gary Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, said: “The recycling bins have been well received in Broadmead and it’s great to see shoppers making the most of this new service. The positive response to these bins means that we can now confidently continue with our plans to roll out recycling bins across the city.”
“We have set ambitious goals for Bristol, with a target of 50% recycling by December 2010 and a long term plan of no untreated waste to be sent to landfill. We are always looking for new ways to increase recycling and make it as easy as possible for residents and visitors to the city to do their bit.”
