Tuesday, 10th March 2009

Bristol's favourite shopping destination, Broadmead, has announced that St Peter's Hospice will be its first ever charity of the year.

St Peter's is Bristol's only hospice caring for local people with incurable illnesses, usually cancer. Its specialist palliative care is provided at its two hospices and across the greater Bristol area by Community Nurse Specialists and Hospice at Home teams.

Broadmead Manager, John Hirst, said: “Broadmead has always been at the heart of Bristol so the partnership with such a well known local charity was a natural one.

“The next 12 months are going to be very exciting for both Broadmead and St Peter’s Hospice, with a packed calendar of fundraising events and activities. We hope all our shoppers will get behind us to help make a real difference to the people that St Peter’s support.”

Sandie Foxall-Smith, Chief Executive of St Peter’s Hospice, said: "We are thrilled and proud to be Broadmead’s first charity of the year.

“Our specialised service is provided free of charge to patients and their families. We are almost wholly dependent on the local community to raise the £5.3 million needed every year to enable us to continue, our vital work.

“This partnership with one of the city’s best known shopping areas will really have a profound impact on the level of support and outreach we are able to offer.”
