Local Authority funds public happiness initiative

Tuesday, 26th January 2010

Light Box, The Happiness Project, will take place on Union Street, Broadmead throughout March this year.

The project involves free public art workshops that promote positive thinking. It has been devised by local artists in consultation with leading positive psychologists. The aim is to promote the mental health of the wider Bristol community during the economic downturn.
Examples of the sessions include Humour and Playfulness with kinetic drawing, Gratitude with Japanese book-binding and Savouring and Flow with laminated mobiles.

It is taking place in partnership with Second Step Housing Association and is funded by Bristol City Council and NHS Bristol.

It is the first public health intervention of its kind and an innovative approach to tackling some of the stigma that surrounds mental health.

Due to be opened by the Lord Mayor of Bristol on Monday March 1st.
