CARTERS STEAM FAIR OFFICIALLY OPENS TODAY IN BRISTOL CITY CENTRE
Saturday, 11th December 2010
Today, the sound of historic fairground organs filled Bristol’s city centre as the city welcomes Carters Steam Fair to its line-up of Christmas festivities with high quality and historic family fairground rides. The steam fair is situated on Bristol’s Harbourside in Millennium Square, Anchor Square and through to Waterfront Square.
Conveniently located within easy walking distance of Bristol’s city centre shopping area, Carters Steam Fair will operate the family fun fair from today until 4th January, 2011. The steam fair will be open from mid-day each day until half six Monday through Thursday and later on the weekends.
The rides on offer include dodgems, gallopers, helter skelter, The Dive Bomber, in addition to three children’s rides from trains, cars and dobbies. Visitors can also enjoy candy floss and fair games.
Seth Carter of Carters Steam Fair said, “We are excited to bring our steam fair to Bristol this Christmas, especially with all the exciting activities the city has on offer this year. Carters is proud to partner with Destination Bristol and Bristol City Council to make this effort happen.”
Carters Steam Fair is based in Berkshire and preserves the heritage of the British fair with vintage rides, traditional showmens’ living vans and period transport. The rides date from 1895 to the 1960s and everything is restored, decorated and illustrated in its period: from Edwardian baroque, through Art Deco to Space Age 50s and 60s.
It is a novel and exciting experience for people of all ages, as older people can enjoy the nostalgia of the fairs they visited in their youth, and children will enjoy the thrill rides that date from their great grandparent’s time.
Bristol also has a wealth of other Christmas festivities taking place near the Carters Steam Fair and Bristol’s main city centre shopping area. Bristol’s Christmas tree is located near the cascade steps on The Centre Promenade along with illuminated trees. Cabot Circus has created its very own winter wonderland with the opening of its skating rink in Quakers Friars which will run through 27 February. This year, shoppers can also enjoy Bristol’s Christmas markets, which combine high quality traditional German and locally inspired markets. Also near Carters Steam Fair is one of Bristol’s best kept secrets and ideal for Christmas shopping, St Nicholas Market, on Corn Street. Children will also be captivated by this year’s grotto in The Mall Bristol that offers a festive addition to Bristol’s city centre shopping festivities.
