ST PAULS CARNIVAL TO BE UNWRAPPED AT BROADMEAD
Tuesday, 15th June 2010
Get into the carnival spirit this Saturday (19 June) as Broadmead presents a spectacular preview of St Pauls Carnival.
The St Pauls Carnival Unwrapped event will see lucky shoppers treated to a flamboyant carnival procession and invite them to take part in the biggest conga line that Broadmead has ever seen. There will also be performances from a string of Bristol’s unsung musical heroes, presenting the very best that Bristol has to offer in family friendly soul, calypso, reggae, Latin and Afro beats. Acts include I Am Entertainment, Suchy La & Mi Shants, Frenzee, World Street Dance finalists Hype, Black Out JA and Laid Blak.
Exciting activities including body percussion, drumming, mask-making workshops and street, hip hop and belly dancing will also be taking place and are sure to dazzle and delight shoppers, transforming their weekends.
This year’s event will see an amazing variety of performers take to the streets of Broadmead and follows the success of last year’s preview event, which captivated Bristol’s shoppers. Broadmead Manager Jo Hawkins said: “This fantastic event will bring a taste of carnival to Broadmead and give shoppers a sneak preview of the colour and vibrancy to be expected at the main event on Saturday 3rd July. The streets will really be alive with music and dancing and we highly recommend making a visit to Broadmead to join in the fun.”
St Pauls Carnival organiser, Julian Davis, said: “The St Pauls Carnival is all about the fusion of different cultures, allowing them to learn more about each other in an exciting and fun way. We wanted to share the joy and vibrancy of the St Pauls Carnival with everyone at Broadmead, helping to liven up their days shopping, whilst allowing us to engage with a much wider audience than usual.
“The carnival is all about showing people that St Pauls is a thriving and welcoming community, which is very much open for business to everyone and we are thankful to Broadmead for its support.”
St Pauls Carnival Unwrapped will take place from noon to 4pm on Saturday 19 June all around the pedestrianised area of Broadmead. To get involved in the grand procession or giant conga line please email Julzd1971@gmail.com.
