BRISTOL TO HOST 2010 WORLD CUP FAN FEST WITH BIG SCREEN AND TRAVEL DEALS
Friday, 4th June 2010
Bristol tourism officials will welcome visitors for a World Cup Fan Fest in Queen Square during the 2010 FIFA World Cupä with a gigantic 30 square metre screen that will be one of only two in the UK. The Bristol World Cup Fan Fest initiative is a result of efforts by the Bristol 2018 World Cup Bid Team, Bristol City Council and Hyundai.
Destination Bristol, the destination management partnership for Bristol and South Gloucestershire has published an online World Cup Fan Fest planner that includes travel offers, activities, and details regarding the fan fest event in Queen Square. The planner even includes football-free events for those not wishing to take part in the World Cup festivities. Bristol’s World Cup ‘widows’ will be able to escape the tournament and indulge in a football-free day of pampering and treats in Broadmead on Saturday, 26 June. Bristol’s World Cup Fan Fest planner is available online at www.VisitBristol.co.uk.
The fan fest will screen up to 40 games of the 2010 FIFA World Cupä and will be staged by car manufacturer Hyundai which has successfully established fan fests across Europe. The new Bristol site could now be one of 18 other sites across Europe screening games, with Manchester to be the only other site in the UK. Other cities outside the UK include Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Bratislava, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Lyon, Madrid, Milan, Paris & Rome.
Incorporating a 30 square metre screen, the Queen Square site will be fully accessible and free to all when the tournament kicks off on 11 June. The fan fest will be family friendly and provide food and beverage outlets. Visitors will receive a wristband upon entering the event to monitor crowd levels. Bristol City Council are still finalising event details and updates will be available throughout the week at www.VisitBristol.co.uk.
Destination Bristol has also compiled other activity surrounding the fan fest that will encourage travel to Bristol during the 2010 FIFA World Cupä. John Hallett, Managing Director at Destination Bristol said, “We look forward to welcoming visitors to the Bristol World Cup Fan Fest with outstanding travel offers, including hotel and dining discounts, along with other activity during the Fan Fest.”
A full fixtures list will be available Wednesday, 9 June. For Bristol World Cup Fan Fest event information, log on to www.VisitBristol.co.uk or contact Destination Bristol’s tourist information centre at 0333 321 0101 for travel related questions.
