Watch out...there's a piano about!
Thursday, 3rd September 2009
Sixteen pianos are set to grace Bristol’s communities as part of a new art and music project, which will bring the city’s streets alive to sound of music.
The project, called ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ is led by local artist, Luke Jerram.
There will a piano at The Podium near to Ann Summers which will be available for anyone to play, paint or decorate.
Luke Jerram has taken his idea of public pianos around the world, with similar ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ projects in Brazil, Australia and London. A special website has been set up where the public are invited to upload and share their comments, films and photos of themselves and their friends playing the pianos.
Luke Jerram, says: “The pianos act as an empty blank canvas for the public to express themselves and share their creativity. Disrupting people’s negotiation of their city, the pianos are also aimed to provoke people into engaging, activating and claiming ownership of their urban landscape. After touring the artwork around the world, it’s really great to present my art project back in my home city of Bristol.”
“’Play Me, I’m yours’ is part of an exciting and unique programme of events marking the opening of the new Colston Hall foyer.
The piano will be in Broadmead until Monday 28th September.
